HOME RENOVATIONS: PART TWO

After painting the house top to bottom in Edgecomb Gray (which is the perfect greige IMO even though now wish I had gone with just white walls everywhere, but that's neither here nor there), we started on the big projects!

We ripped up every bit of carpet upstairs and on the stairs and laid new flooring throughout the entire house. We had every intention of buying new stair treads, but when we ripped up the carpet we were pleasantly surprised to find quality wood underneath! A couple of coats of stain later and a couple of coats of paint on the risers and it was done! Well except for Corey and our handy neighbor laying tile on the stoop. (The project sounded easy, but this was probably one of my top 3 least favorite projects – because it literally consisted of just watching paint dry - so much so that it took me leaving for a weekend and my MIL coming to town to knock out this project...thanks again, Kathy!!!).

The tile may seem random (admittedly, it is) but we didn't think we would like the look of our flooring in that tiny triangle area since it isn't the same stain color of the stair treads. Little did we know this spot would become "Maisy's Stoop" and her favorite place to take a nap since it stays cool year round!

Sooooo back to flooring. I think Corey would say it was his least favorite project A) because it was the most expensive and B) because we did it twice. Yep. I went on a dental school conference trip one weekend and when I returned, I found that Corey had ripped up the floors because he didn't like how they were buckling in the kitchen. It was a tough pill to swallow that we would have to re-do a project that took weeks to complete BUT we knew it was an important job to do right.

Do you see how the original floors downstairs were pretty orange? They were in good condition, we just didn't love their appearance and weren't too keen on spending a lot of money to match them upstairs, so we decided we would rather go with a warmer-toned wood flooring throughout the entire house. Here's to a finished project, and hopefully NEVER laying flooring ever again!
